Ruben Groenewald is a talented fly-half from Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool (Affies) in Pretoria, one of South Africa's premier rugby schools. In 2025, he served as captain of Affies’ First XV (known as the "Wit Bulle") and was the highest scorer for the team, with 147 points. Impressively, he also became the 109th student to captain the team since 1921.
Groenewald has been instrumental in several close encounters: In a thrilling match against Jeppe High School, he kicked a penalty in the dying seconds to give Affies a dramatic 38–36 win, tallying 14 points through three penalties and two conversions. Earlier, he secured a hard-fought 16–16 draw against Paarl Gimnasium with a crucial conversion in wet conditions.
His leadership and form earned him selection for the Blue Bulls to participate in the prestigious SA Schools squad, following his standout contributions at the FNB U18 Craven Week in Middelburg in July 2025.
