Markus Muller is one of the most exciting young prospects in South African rugby, with a rapid rise from schoolboy standout to professional and international rugby at just 19 years of age.
A product of Paarl Gimnasium, Muller established himself as an exceptional midfield talent and captained the school's First XV. His performances earned selection for SA Schools in 2024, before he captained the SA Schools side in 2025. His combination of physicality, attacking instinct, leadership and maturity quickly placed him among the country's most highly rated young players.
Muller joined the
DHL Stormers in 2026 and was integrated into their senior environment through the Stormers Rugby Institute. His progression accelerated rapidly, earning him selection for the Junior Springboks and an invitation to a Springbok alignment camp — a significant endorsement of his potential at such a young age.
On 25 April 2026, Muller made history when he made his DHL Stormers debut against Glasgow Warriors at just 18 years, 9 months and 19 days, becoming the youngest player ever to represent the Stormers in a senior match.
His 2026 season continued to gather momentum. Muller was part of the Junior Springbok squad that won the 2026 World Rugby U20 Championship, playing a significant role throughout the tournament. Muller also progressed into senior representative rugby, featuring for South Africa A against Zimbabwe before making his Stormers Currie Cup debut later in the season.
His rapid development has positioned him firmly within the next generation of South African rugby talent. A powerful and versatile centre with an attacking mindset, strong defensive qualities and natural leadership ability, Muller possesses many of the attributes required to develop into a senior international player.
