Lukas Meyer is a dynamic South African rugby union flanker (position 7) renowned for his relentless work rate, tackling prowess, and leadership qualities. Hailing from Grey College in Bloemfontein, Free State, Meyer burst onto the scene as one of the top schoolboy talents in 2022, earning a spot in the prestigious SA Schools squad for the international series against Wales and England. His explosive carries and defensive tenacity made him a standout in Grey College's dominant campaign that year, where he was often described as a "T-Rex" for his predatory style on the field.
Transitioning to provincial rugby, Meyer joined the Vodacom Bulls academy and quickly rose through the ranks. In 2023, as captain of the Vodacom Bulls U19 side, he led them to a commanding victory in the SA Rugby U19 Cup final, scoring three tries in the 36-15 triumph over Western Province and being named the standout player of the match. This success underscored his ability to inspire teammates and perform under pressure.
By 2025, Meyer had advanced to the U21 level, co-captaining the Vodacom Bulls U21 team alongside Juan Smal at the start of their campaign in May. He featured prominently in key matches, including against the Hollywoodbets Sharks U21, continuing to demonstrate his value as a loose forward with exceptional engine and breakdown expertise. As of September 2025, the 20-year-old remains an uncapped prospect for the Junior Springboks and senior Springboks but is firmly on the radar of national selectors, with his trajectory pointing toward a potential breakthrough in Currie Cup or Super Rugby pathways through the Bulls franchise.
