Damian de Allende attended Milnerton High School in Cape Town. Initially, he played rugby recreationally but quickly realized his potential and began to focus seriously on the sport. His physicality and skill set soon made him stand out.

De Allende did not follow the traditional route of Craven Week representation but instead made his mark in the Western Province amateur leagues. His performances for club rugby earned him a place in the Western Province academy.

De Allende made his professional debut for Western Province in the Currie Cup. His strong running, powerful defense, and ability to break the line quickly established him as a key player.

His performances in the Currie Cup led to his inclusion in the Stormers' Super Rugby squad. De Allende's combination of size, strength, and skill made him a regular starter, and he became known for his hard-running style and solid defensive work. He played a crucial role in the Stormers' midfield, contributing significantly to their campaigns.

De Allende has also played for several international clubs, including Panasonic Wild Knights in Japan's Top League and Munster in Ireland's United Rugby Championship. His international club stints have added to his experience and versatility as a player. In 2023, De Allende signed with Honda Heat, continuing his career in Japan's Top League.

De Allende made his debut for the South African national team, the Springboks, in 2014. He quickly became a mainstay in the midfield, known for his robust physicality, defensive prowess, and ability to break tackles. De Allende was a key player in South Africa's 2019 Rugby World Cup-winning squad, playing an instrumental role in their success. He has also represented South Africa in The Rugby Championship and the British & Irish Lions series.
