Corné Beets, born on October 1, 2003, is a promising South African rugby union player known for his versatility in the back row, primarily playing as a number eight. He first gained significant attention during his tenure at Paarl Gymnasium in the Western Cape, a school renowned for producing top rugby talent. Beets' exceptional performances at the junior level led to his selection for the Junior Springboks, South Africa's Under-20 national team.
In the 2023 World Rugby Under-20 Championship, Beets was instrumental in securing a bronze medal for the Junior Springboks, notably scoring a try in the third-place playoff against England. His outstanding contributions throughout the tournament earned him the prestigious title of Junior Springbok Player of the Year at the 2023 SA Rugby Awards.
Following his success on the international stage, Beets signed a long-term contract with the Vodacom Bulls, a prominent South African franchise based in Pretoria. However, in March 2024, he announced a move to England, signing with the Leicester Tigers for the 2024/25 season. Unfortunately, due to visa complications, this move was canceled, and Beets reaffirmed his commitment to the Vodacom Bulls by signing a new two-year contract, extending his stay until 2026.
Standing at 1.88 meters and weighing 105 kilograms, Beets is celebrated for his athleticism and dynamic play on the field. As he continues his career with the Vodacom Bulls, he aims to contribute significantly to the team's success and further establish himself as a key player in South African rugby.
