Wessels attended Grey College in Bloemfontein, a renowned rugby school in South Africa. Known for producing top rugby talent, Grey College was the perfect breeding ground for Wessels to hone his skills. His versatility and athleticism allowed him to play both as a prop and a hooker during his school career.
Wessels represented the Free State Cheetahs at various youth levels. His performances at youth tournaments, including Craven Week, showcased his potential as a formidable front-row forward. His ability to switch between prop and hooker positions added to his value as a versatile player.
Wessels joined the Blue Bulls, where he quickly made an impact in the Currie Cup and the United Rugby Championship (URC). His physicality, scrummaging
strength, and dynamic play around the field have made him a key player for the Bulls. Despite his young age, Wessels has shown maturity and skill, earning regular starts and contributing significantly to the Bulls' forward dominance.
